Dr. Doug Spence Jr, Vice President
As a Family Physician and Hospitalist physician, Dr. Spence has been moved by the damaging effects of the neurological brain disorder of addiction on a person's personal health, finances and family life. He works hard to not only manage the harsh health effects of untreated addiction but also to focus on stopping progression of disease and management/life skills for prevention. In his professional work he has found that the disorder of addiction really knows no one group or socioeconomic status- it is everywhere. Dr. Spence, became an ATS Board Member in 2019 and has been so impressed with the ATS employee dedication to those who need help.
Dr. Spence recently began work full time for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a primary care provider and appreciates his team and the way they care for Veterans of our community who dedicated themselves to our country's service.
Dr. Spence has lived in Grand Traverse County since 2002 and enjoys supporting those who love biking, walking and running outdoors safely with several years on the TART trails board. He loves volunteering for and participating in athletic events all throughout the region. His family is at the heart of his daily activities and loves time with his college age kids and getting his labradors out on hikes with him and his wife, Fern. He also worked hard to support Fern through a successful campaign to become a Commissioner for Grand Traverse County.
